Whats Happening!!

Hey everyone! I thought I would post a little update as to what I've been up to. Last Fri. one of my dreams came true as I got to jam with three fantastic guitar players, Jeff Beck, Billy Gibbons and Jimmy Vaughn! It was for an event here in L.A. at the Peterson Automotive Museum, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the '32 Ford. I'll have pictures and a writeup all about the event on my site hopefully this week.In the meantime you can also see a couple of shots on Jeff's web site: www.jeffbeck.com
On Sun. I surprised Sammy at the NASCAR race, where he played a few songs before the race. I jumped up to sing a little on"I Can't Drive 55", which was televised before the start of the race. Next I'm looking forward to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on Mar. 12, then I will fly down to Puerto Vallerto to meet the cruise ship to jam with Sam's band( TheWabos). We are working on a few older VH songs, and I'll be handling all the lead vocals..WATCH OUT HAGAR!! I'm looking forward to bashing it up a bit with all of you on the cruise! Check out my website for all the info, and I'll be talking to all of you real soon....Michael

Mike,

Good job at Fontana! Maybe I'm a diehard, but I'm hoping you and Sam are welcome at 5150 Studios and you have some good rehearsals, paving the way for a good experience at the Hall of Fame show March 12. I've always thought VH is at its best with you and Sam, because vocals are important. If there's ever a time for "you guys" to put your differences aside, this is it!!

Hey Mike, I hope the project with Chad Smith and Sammy Hagar will turn into a record, like Sammy suggested earlier in the year. It'd be nice to hear some new music and new basslines from you especially in a power trio setting! Keep up the good work sir, I saw the Nascar performance on TV and it was cool!

Mikey,

You're Midas. Everything you touch turns to Habaneros.

Can't wait to see the RnRHOF. You puttin' the fangs to the Bass line intro of RWTD and your signature vocals to everything else VH.

Long live mullets!,

Mikey - you are the bomb! We (the fans) know that you want nothing more than to get up on the stage and rock our collective asses off! VH would not have been the band they were w/o you big ass bass grove and killer background vox. Don't care what Edward says, you and Al were the backbone of that band.

Can't wait to see you in Tahoe for Cinco de Tahoe, (please say you will be there!).

This is awesome, even more evidence that you and Sam are so cool. Looking forward to hearing some Chickenfoot! Have fun at the RRhoF, regardless of what happens. Have been a big fan of yours since I was 8 in 1978, you're an inspiration in so many ways! Take care and have fun (which of course, I know you will!).

Hey Mike,
I'm thinking you, Sam and Dave should get up with Matt Sorum and Slash on March 12. You only get inducted once in your life, so have fun with it. Oh and if Bevis and Butthead DO show up, I say you show them the exit.

Congratulations!!

Hey -

I was one of the lucky ones at the Peterson gig. I was right up front and I have to say that my mind was blown seeing you, Jeff, Jimmy and Billy play together and I can't imagine what was going through your head playing with those guys!. Great show. I got a bunch of pictures if you want them (just post a response on here so I will know you want them).

I hear that the Van Halen Bros. may not be going to the Rock and Roll, I am a huge VH fan and hope that you are going regardless of what Edward and Alex do. You, Sammy and Dave should all go, you were all just as much a part of history as the brothers.

Dear Mike,

Congrats on the Hall of Fame honors :)

Hey, I'm sure I am speaking for the vast majority of VH fans that would love to see you, Al, Ed, and Dave and Sam do a couple of songs from both the classic and Sammy eras. Maybe Ed will go along with it if everyone insists? You guys will never get another chance replay this night!

No matter what craziness is currently going on in the Van Halen lineup lately, it sure would be a fine thing if all differences could be put aside for that one night and play together one last time.

Heres to hoping!

A great big CONGRATS for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, you and Sammy most definitely deserve it.

OK, Mad Anthony and Sammy Hagar...word just came across Thursday afternoon that Roth, Eddie and Alex won't be attending or performing at HOF. So, get up there with Velvet Revolver and show 'em how it's done. If for whatever reasons the brothers and DLR can't get their act together, you guys sure as hell can. Go get em!! Bob, Vancouver WA

Congratulations on VH´s indication to the Rock´n´Roll Hall of Fame, you were as important as anyone involved in it!
I watched the video when you get on the stage during "I can´t drive 55" at Sammy´s concert, and that was just amazing and exciting for all the fans!
Brazil loves you, guys... congrats on this new work with Sammy Hagar. We´ve never seen VH with Sammy in here, but we still hope to see you two playing together in here... Talk to Red Rocker about the possibility of a Brazilian tour!

Well Ed has checked into rehab. Lets hope that this is not too late and that there is still some of the Eddie that we had all come to know and love left in that shell. Who knows maybe he will find himself and we can have a real VH reunion after all. I am not counting on anything more than a happy healthy Eddie coming out of this. God Bless him. Oh and Mike...Love you man! Congrats on the HOF play some songs will ya!

Let the "Other Half" take the lead at the RRHoF induction and show Ed and Al how it's done. Or just go out there without EVH if Al is willing to play. There is still a working relationship with Al and Sammy... Have Slash play the guitar or even let Vic Johnson come play in Ed's place. Vic rules too. At least Vic can play summer nights live... VH is nothing with out Mikey and Sammy!

Have a great time at the induction Mikey!

Hope to see you and Sammy in Indy soon!!!

Mike,

It just goes to show (us the fans), you and Sammy are a real class act !! I wanted to watch the R&RHof induction last night, but it wasn't broadcast up here in Canada. I'm so happy you guys showed up, and were able to play a kickass tune.
Congrats on the honors, you truly deserve it...and keep on keepin' on...

Mr Anthony,

I have been a Van-Halenoid for more than a quarter of a century, and more than half of my life. I have learned most of what I know about music from yours, Al's and Ed's playing, and - more importantly - all about musicianship, and how important it is to play and jam 'live' with other people. It's the only way that new musical ideas and concepts emerge, and - in my humble opinion - much of (if not all of) the current music industry should try and re-learn this ideology. It is severely lacking these days.

I tinker with guitars like Ed used to do, fiddle around with odd drum beats like Al used to do, and try and harness it all into a coherant (yet interesting) musical experience via my Fender J-Bass - like you have always done.

It is this latter point that I have come to love the most - as blindly waxing notes/rythm's doesn't work until someone glues it all together into something that people want to listen to.

For this un-appreciated, yet very important task, I thank you, Sir, for every tune that kept me going in my own life. I readily recognize and am grateful for your contribution to the worlds greatest rock band. (And I would appreciate it greatly if you would pass on these very same sentiments to Mr Hagar - for delivering the absolute highest standards of vocal abilities that Van Halen has ever enjoyed in its entire career.)

I am having a hard time dealing with the fact that Al and Ed insisted that you sign away your royalties from past VH material.

I am having an even harder time dealing with the fact that you have been ousted from the band that you were a huge part of, and that your bass playing (and your high-pitched backup voice) created, matured, nurtured and evolved into the brand name that it is (or was)today.

I am thoroughly disgusted at Al and Ed's self-centered behavior towards you - especially after reading tons of Ed's interviews in which he insisted that everyone in the VH camp was 'family' and thus contributed equally to the finished VH experience.

Sir, I live in Denmark, a tiny Scandinavian nation that VH has only performed in once - and I am proud to say that I attended that concert. We were only some 4000 people there, in the (acoustically speaking) worst hall to perform in - "The Forum".

However, thanks in no small part to yours and Mr Hagars contributions on that wonderful day, the experience blew me away, and shall forever be my memory of what Van Halen was and should have continued to be. (It also blew away an American Tank crew whom I met while waiting in line in front of The Forum, and whom were on 48 hrs of R&R in Denmark.)

For this, Sir, I thank both You, and Mr Hagar.

The only TRUE Van Halen members left on this planet...

Gratefully Yours,

William Winks

PS!

My sister had your hot sauce shipped to me as a birthday present on my 40th birthday.

I loved the sauce, but wish that you would lower the Black Pepper content.

To my tastes, its a bit too 'scratchy' at the back of my throat when it should be 'hot', if you know what I mean!

(Who knows - maybe you could up the ante and create an 'Ass-Ulcer' sauce or something?!?!?!)

=(;-P)~

Hey Mikey! I am so glad you and Sammy sang at the Hall of Fame induction. I HATED Velvet Revolvers rendention of VH songs. They are a good band but nobody else can do your stuff. I wish you, Sammy and Alex and Dave would have played and just had another guitar player in Ed's place. But you guys saved the night by singing together! Looking forward to seeing you in Tahoe May 5th!

Mikey,

On March 12th you and Sammy showed yourselfs as a real class act. Both of you mentioning Eddie in a very positive light. Its great to see that after all the crap that has been said and done to Sammy and youself that you can rise above it all. I hope that Chickenfoot puts out a disk, it sounds like a great lineup for a band. Keep up the great work!!!!

Mike,

You and Sammy were all class at the VH HOF induction. Maybe when Eddie gets his head screwed on srtaight he'll realize that VH is not just his name but an institution and real VH fans won't be interested in a VH without Michael Anthony. I still hold out hope for a real VH reunion but until then keep rockin' with Sammy! I Hope to see you guys at the Cabo Wabo real soon!

Hey Mikey -
I have been a Van Halen fan all my musical life - and I have to say that your speech at the award show was awesome and I pray that Eddie gets better and when he sobers up he realizes how incredibly important you are to Van Halen. Not many people would have been as grecious as you were especially considering everything that had been going on before the awards show. I would never see Van Halen without you in the band. Thank you for all these years of excellent music!! ROCK ON!!!
