What's Happening!!
First of all I'd like to wish everyone a HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Be safe out there..Alot has been happening since I last posted. First I'll start with the two shows the other week that I missed. Management booked these two shows ( Gibson Amphitheatre, Soboba Casino)without my knowledge after the tour, and failed to let me in on it!! I was pretty pissed, as months before I had booked a getaway for that same weekend, for my wife's birthday, and I would not have gained any points with her if I was to bail!! (all you married guys out there know what I'm saying) Anyway, I told Sam's management to keep me in the loop in the future so this doesn't happen again!
Cabo for Sam's B-Day bash was probably one of the best so far, and I'll post some pics for everyone to check out. I also jammed with my buddies 'The Atomic Punks", last week at a corporate party for YAHOO. What a blast!!! I got to play some of the early VH that I haven't played in a loooong time!! "Hot For Teacher" ROCKED!!!! Thank you Ralph, Joe, Scott, and Lance for inviting me to come out and hang...I think there are some pics of the show out there, but I will also post some up for ya.
Last but certainly not least, it looks like I'll be trading my snowboard this New Years for flip flops, as I will be joing Sammy down in Cabo for some sun and jammin' at the Cabo Wabo. I'm usually in the snow for the holiday's, so this will be quite a change. We'll be playing on New Year's Eve, and if I recover, a few more times. There are a lot of rumors flying right now that Dave will rejoin VH for a tour next year... and that Wolfgang will be playing bass.
That seems insane to me. He might be a great kid and all but I find it more than a little insulting that the music we all grew up with will be given to us by a kid now... I even have some misgivings about Roth being able to handle the job at this point.
Since hearing this news I've been reading all the stuff at VHforums and I wanted to ask you about what's going on because I know you're as big a fan of Van Halen music as we are.

I am a VH DLR era fan and a SH solo fan and unless I can get the 4 members together. I will not go to any so called reunion show.

You've always been an integral part of Classic Van Halen music and it would be a real shame if you were NOT part of the supposed reunion of all original members in 2007! You have always been there for the fans and what great chance to leave a definitive mark in rock and roll history! In 2007, Van Halen can save the integrity (what's left of it) and legacy of Van Halen and give an opportunity to those who never experienced one of the greatest rock and roll bands to come out of America!
Van Halen will always be remembered as Dave, Mike Eddie and Alex and I hope you're a part of rock and roll history! With all do respect, being inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame early in the New Year and being included and performing on one of the most significant and memorable world tours in history, you deserve to be there friend! Thanks for all the great memories Mike!
Mike, let us know what is happening if you can. And if there is really something going on, then talk to Al, Dave, and Ed and make this somehow happen.

Maybe you perceive a theme emerging here, and I'd just like to dogpile right on top of it. There's a lot of us Roth/VH fans who won't buy a show without you. I'm hoping that reality approximates the way things seem, that Sam's mensch enough to give you his blessing on this and get back with you when the rumored show is all over.
But you strike many of us as the consistent class act in the whole sordid VH affair, and we can only hope you get your due. 'Cause as long as we've been waiting, as badly as we want to see Dave and Ed just one more time, it simply ain't gonna be right without you there.
Apart from the brothers, you're the one true constant. Know how much we dig you for that, whether there's any truth to these rumors or not.
I'm thinking that if the stories are true, that Wolfie is getting this to happen because he wants to see his dad play the Roth material, than how could he not want to see MA up there as well???
All I can say is, better not be EVH, AVH, Roth and WVH playing at the RnRHOF show!!

Quite frankly, I would find it not only a heartbreakingly misguided, yet bone-headed move to leave M.A. out of any VH Reunion plans.
It would also smack of a vile lack of integrity on the part of the Van Halen brothers and Dave Roth.
I'm not naive enough to equate clear thinking with the Van Halen braintrust, yet come on: publicly leaving out Mike Anthony would not only be a stab in the back to the fellow, it would be an insult to the fans and a dim-witted move against the band's legacy.

You are the reason I picked up a bass instead of a guitar when I heard/saw my first VH concert back in 79 (Women and Children First Tour).
On top of that, the VH sound is unique for 2 things to me (lead vocals aside): EVH guitar, and your harmonies. Nuff said, nobody can duplicate that. IF you are not on the tour with them, not only will I not go to the show, but I will encourage anybody thinking of going to stay home.
I hope these rumors aren't true, but if they are, it will be the biggest sham concert in history. Thanks to you for laying it down all these years, and being the classiest, most down to earth member of what used to be the best band in the world.

glad to see you finaly gave an answer to why you were not at soboba...the show was good, but not what I paid for in august...I bought three tickets to see the sam and other half show....got to see a very short sam show with no encores and no other half.....I tried to get a refund but could not...I find it hard to believe you were not aware of the rescheduleing of the shows...And you had a commitment to us the fans, that have paid your way...I would think a muti-millionaire like your self could have put us first that weekend and your wife would understand....I make 15.00 an hour and my wife would understand if I made promisses to my bose.....Oh well, f-the fans, the ones that pay everyones way......I also sent my same message to sammy after the soboba debacle.....we should have known we were getting the shaft when sammy said there was a curfew at soboba.....There is no local ordances at any indian sovern nation....never again will I waste me money on a sam and mike show.....I know this will not be posted with all the suck ass fans comments on the board, but maybe mike will read this.....

I emailed the Official VH website to let them know that 'if you were not a part of the reunion tour, then don't even bother!' You are just as much a part of the VH sound as Eddie's guitar or Alex's drums! I hope they come to their senses. Your hot mustard rocks! I can't get enough of it...
Word is, some promoters have already been informally approached by the band reps about a '07 tour with and without you (Mike) involved. Every single one balked at putting up for a major North American tour with Wolfgang on bass. IMO, this gives you some serious leverage if the brothers want to mount as big a tour as is being discussed. Of course, you gotta put a price tag on spending several months with happy-go-lucky Eddie and Alex (and Dave!).

Yea, a lot of people on eddievanhalen.com are not happy about the way Mike's been treated. I think it would be a big mistake if they try to do it without you, Mike. If they don't contact you and negotiate a decent deal with you I'd tell them where to go. If I were you I'd take no less than 20% plus all the rights back that you signed away for the 2004 tour. You have the power if they contact you.
If it's DLR, Al, Ed and no Mike. IT WILL BOMB, GUARANTEED.

Mike, I am truly sad that the rumor mill is spreading with you not being the Bass player for the up and coming VH 2007 tour? This is so wrong on so many points, that I hope the four of you (Dave, Eddie, Alex & yourself)can work out some sort of compromise? It's just not the same without the "Original" four members. Wolfgang may have some musical tallent, but he will not have your backgroud vocals on stage. This is a "Main" part of the VH sound.
I can see Eddie, Alex & Wolfgang Jaming on stage with a instrumental tune like you did on the 82 tour with "Girl Gone Bad". I can't see him as a full replacement? Eddie just doesn't seem to get it. Mikey has been a loyal and integral part of VH for 30 years, even after the way he's been treated by the band for the last 10. Michael owes a lot to the band, but the band owes just as much to him. Any kind of reunion or HOF activity without MA would be a sham, an(other) insult to the fans. NOBODY knows what EVH has going on in his mind, but sometimes I think it would just be better if he walked away rather than carrying on with this petty stuff. Wolfie might be a great bass player - who knows, but I'm not interested in him being slipped into the band and 'forced' down my throat if I want to see VH again. Let Wolfie do his own thing. How can anybody fault MA for wanting to go out and play rather than sitting around waiting for EVH to pull his head out of his a@@ and get his act together? I won't be spending money to further degrade any integrity the band once enjoyed.

Well, EVH has finally done it! He has disappointed fans for the last time. Any tour without you would be a disaster. You are the foundation for the band's tunes on the bass and the trademark sound on the vocals. Not to mention your awe inspiring stage presence. Good fucking stuff man!
VH is simply not VH without you. If you end up doing it, do it for the fans(as you always do). With much humility you did the last tour as a hired hand FOR THE FANS. That was awesome and I know Sammy wouldn't have done it without you.

Mike like everyone here ive been a fan for many years. I have to say this is the final starw with me and the VH brothers. I always loved the band and Eddie alot being a guitar player. But those guys are so friggin selfish. Now Ed wants to pass off his kid as deserving of taking your place in VH. His last name might be Van Halen but I'm not buying it. Although it beaks my heart I wont be going to any half-assed reunion tour. I'll just have to stick with the old records..see ya C

If this tour does happen in 2007 without you, whatever promoter takes on this fiasco is 5 times more "cracked up" than Eddie was on the last tour (if you know what I mean, with the emphasis on "crack"). That tour was a complete joke, I had free tickets for Toronto, but didn't go, because I didn't want to witness Eddie in the "state" that he was. Everyone knows he played like shit. Mike, everyone keeps telling you this but VH without you will be a joke, I can't think of one serious VH fan that would go, I wouldn't go if you gave me 10,000$ cash. You are way to nice to be treated like this, and WAY too important to the VH sound, END OF STORY. Anyone who pays to see this tour if it happens without Mike, should be publicly spat upon.

I have been a big fan of VH's music for years, be it w/Dave or Sammy. You are an integral part of the band's music and I've always enjoyed your off the wall solo's in concert. I'll never forget you picking your bass with your teeth to intro Running With the Devil in Worcester, 1988 or so. Anyway, I never saw VH w/Dave (too young at that time), and I won't see VH with Dave if you aren't there. It is obvious that for all of EVH's complaining over the years about the singers, he is the one who is truly the jerk. They should call it LGD, not LSD. LEAD GUITARIST DISEASE. Anyway, keep having fun with Sammy and bring "The Other Half" around again so we can enjoy the two VH members who know how to have fun and put on a good show.

Hi Mike - I have been a life-long VH fan. Having read all of the recent news concerning the band, I think that it is a complete travesty how the VH brothers have treated you. Eddie's playing inspired me to learn to play, but as I've grown older I've become ashamed to admit that because of his recent bizarre behavior and comments, ie - writing music for porn, claiming to cure cancer, continuing to smoke after having had cancer twice, and generally ruining his own legacy and name. If it's really true that he's putting his fat, spoiled kid in VH in place of you, I will never purchase another VH related item again. I'm sure Wolfgang is probably about as talented as Jason Bonham... not very. Keep your head up Mikey and I hope, for all of our sakes, a VH reunion with you and Roth happens. Those high notes were the base that the background vocals were built on. Last week, TheFeed ran a story about Eddie Van Halen’s spokesperson, Janie Liszewski, telling TMZ.com that his son Wolfgang was officially the new bassist in Van Halen. Well, now TheFeed can confirm he's in the band via our own correspondence with Liszewski, as well as the fact that there will be a summer 2007 tour!
"Yes, I can confirm this story in the respect of Wolfgang being the new bass player for the band and, yes, he has been in the studio with his dad and uncle rehearsing and writing for an upcoming summer 2007 tour," Liszewski told TheFeed exclusively. "Wolfgang most certainly has inherited the Van Halen musical genius gene. At 15 years of age his knowledge, understanding, skill, and command of multiple instruments is impressive.”
She also confirmed what Eddie announced on Howard Stern last month, that Michael Anthony is definitely no longer in Van Halen.
When asked about the rumor that the Van Halen boys will enlist original VH singer David Lee Roth for this tour, Liszewski said, “There has been no confirmation that David Lee Roth will be touring this coming summer."
So let's recap: We know that Eddie and brother Alex are rehearsing with Wolfgang on bass. We know that there will be a tour this summer. We don’t know who will sing for the band yet, but we know Eddie is open to working with Roth (he said so on Stern) and that no one is denying that Diamond Dave could be the frontman. Hmmmm…interesting.
Mikey - instead of Eddie giving ultimatums, you should be giving him some: Get his rotten teeth fixed, get off the Smoking Loon 24/7, get into rehab for three weeks, and eat some solid food... or you won't even share the stage with him. I know that's probably what you've been thing anyway. You know much more than we do how bad of shape Eddie is in. If he doesn't get help, he will shipwreck. I can't believe he's even thinking of having his kid replace you - gimme a break! Like my kid could replace Gene Simmons! Yeah right!!!
Mike, I certainly hope that if it's true that the dysfunctial family ends up with Dave again that you are asked to come on board separate travel arrangements of course. I'm a VH fan since I started getting zits around '82. As much as I would love to see the original lineup (I never have), I am more than content with my last VH memory- the 1st show (Greensboro) of the 04 Reunion- a show filled with positive energy, fan comraderie, powerful vocals, beer drinking and bass thundering in the true VH spirit!
No true VH fan would ever consider any lineup that you were not a part of to be VH (THE BAND)!
I mean come on, can Wolfgang VH even LIFT the mighty Jack Daniels bass???

Never seen Van Halen live on stage (although I had a chance back in '98, plus I have bootlegs), but I sincerely hope someone knocks some sense into Ed's difficult-to-access head.
I'd like to see if the original line-up could still have that enthusiasm/attitude it had some 20 years back, and prove to some friends of mine that VH is a kickass rock band, that deserves respect. (Unlike Mötley Crüe, IMO)
You're an important piece of the band, just like Dave, Al & Ed. Without you, Van Halen would be like a Hemi 'Cuda running with 6 cylinders, a busted 4-speed and a Pinto overtaking it...
If the reunion will occur with Ed's kid handling the bass, I'll just watch my bootlegs and wonder what the hell happened. (And get gloriously wasted in the process...)

You should absolutely be present for the 2007 reunion fans have been waiting more than 20 years to see. However, that said... if they can call it Van Halen without Dave... they can call it Van Halen without you. Sorry Bud. Also... seats will be full one way or the other. Well it's all been said here a thousand times but let me just add another post here. I will never support VH if they try to screw you out of whats rightfully yours and any reunion tour is out of the question without you. Who knows, maybe you are already over VH and don't really care at this point. In a way, I hope so...these guys can't seem to think very clearly for whatever reason and I won't bother to speculate here. Mike we all love you buddy...you've given us some of the most kick ass rock ever and your backing vocals are in class by themselves. We all know what a class act you are and we certainly appreciate it. Keep rocking man, I'll come and support you wherever you play and whoever you play with. P.S. I sold you the striped Rickenbacker Bass back in 83. My friend Cordell (who is still my best freind) say's "Hey Mikey!" Mike, you must really be secure in who you are as a person to let these idiots trash you on your own website. I guess they can't accuse you of censoring now.
I am as big a Van halen fan as anyone. I saw you guys in 2004, and I have seen you with Sammy twice in Saint Louis. Sure, bass players can be replaced - but your backup vocals are way too much of a signature sound of Van Halen to ever be replaced or impersonated by anyone Mike. Plus, your energy onstage is unequaled.
A lot of these guys who are trashing you here have simply never been able to get over DLR leaving Van Halen. They have a website where they bitch all day and night. I guess they have nothing better to do than slander Sammy Hagar and anyone who has anything to do with him. My advice to them is to get over it and move on.
Mike, the only way I would ever pay to see Van Halen again is if Eddie would spend 30 days in a rehab before the tour. Drinking that Smoking Loon wine 24/7 has finally taken its toll on him. In addition, I saw Wolfie on the 2004 VH tour, and that was enough for me. I would not pay to see him atempt to replace you on bass guitar. I'd rather kick back with a bottle of Cabo Wabo and watch Van Halen DVD's.

What is up with the angry comments? I thought this site/blog was for Michael Anthony fans who want to share their ideas and comments. For people to get so fired up and belligerent over a situation they have zero first hand knowledge of, is just sad. Personally, I have plenty of real stuff in my own life to spend my time and energy on.

I read where you jammed with The Atomic Punks a few times. They kick ass! Why don't you and Sammy Hagar hook up with the Punks and go on tour together? Now that would truly be the Best Of Both Worlds!!! You know that it is a fact that The Atomic Punks sound more like Classic Van Halen than anything Eddie and DLR could put together today would sound. Ralph does Roth live better than Roth ever could.

I was sorry to hear that you really won't be along for the 07 Roth tour, afterall. For one thing, that means that I won't be buying a ticket. Are they trying to turn VH into the Partridge Family? I get embarassed just thinking about that whole deal.
Anyway, your bass playing has always been an inspiration to me because you truly play from the heart and you always lay it right in the pocket. Plus it's obvious that you care about the music and your fans. I hope you can squeeze in some east coast shows this year- we'll be ready to party with you.
